MARTHA
Yes, that Martha. The one and only Martha. Martha Stewart, of course.
Some of us may feel we’ve had our fill of her. Her ups and downs. Her celebrity. Her money. Her prison time. Her books. Her lifestyle. Her trials, her tribulations. Enough already, right?
That was my first reaction when my cousin HIGHLY recommended the new documentary “Martha,” just out on Netflix. Initially, I was not inclined to race to the television.
But, since my cousin is an astute observer of all things interesting and since we admire and love her, we gave “Martha” a look-see. And are we ever glad we did!
The documentary is lively and compelling. And just like Martha herself, it commands you to watch. To pay close attention. You may think you know what’s coming but still, you wait. And you watch. And you may just learn something you didn’t know.
It’s also highly entertaining, reflective and ultimately so very, very Martha. It reveals the good, the bad, but, of course, never the ugly. Martha doesn’t do ugly. We all know that. Even in prison she didn’t do ugly.
Like Martha or not, she’s an icon. Resistant, smart and confident. The documentary is a rare bright spot in today’s television offerings. At least in our ever-so humble opinions. So, go on. Take a peek. I’m betting you’ll agree.
