Political Campaigns and Natural Disaster Relief Funds

Question:  What do the above have in common?

Answer:  Money.  Or more accurately,  the NEED for money.

Those running for office cannot succeed without money.

And those whose lives have been destroyed by natural disasters can’t recover without money.

There’s nothing political or exaggerated about either of those statements.

To compare the two, over 15 billion dollars has been raised for the 2024 federal election.  We can only assume there’s more on the way in these last days before the election.

Helene and Milton, our recent hurricanes, reportedly caused some 100 billion dollars in damages.  To date, 2 billion dollars has been made available for hurricane relief.  We hope there’s more on the way.

There’s nothing political or exaggerated about either of those statements either.

Lastly.  The two efforts are distinct in their purpose.  One supports those who hope to gain  political position and power.  The other supports those who have lost everything.

Those are the facts as best we can determine.  The disparity between the two, on all levels, is shocking.  And makes me a bit sad.
