Meek
Who would ever choose to be described as “meek?” Especially now when it seems we only recognize those who are anything but meek? Has “meek” become just another four letter word?
The Mister recently wrote a piece which he shared with me. He’s a bit wordier than I am but I really liked the message. Thus, he has graciously condensed it for me to share it with you.
Being Meek
One of the best-known lines from the Bible goes like this: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
How so?
Abraham Lincoln is a great example.
Known for seeking divergent views, he deliberately assembled a “Team of Rivals” for his cabinet so he could hear and integrate their conflicting views before making decisions. Being meek.
Publicly admitting to more than one failed strategy in the Civil War, he was able to maintain the trust of his constituents and political solidarity during exceedingly perilous times. Being meek.
Just maybe, being meek turns out to be one of the best ways “to inherit the earth.”
That all rings true for me. And perhaps for others. Maybe “being meek” isn’t such a bad thing after all.
