Brie.

Please welcome Brie. She’s two years old. We adopted her almost a week ago. Just a little over a month after Basil died.

In adopting her, we are well aware that she can’t replace Basil.  Such a being does not exist.  But she’s ever-so-important to us in our healing process. And will be deeply loved as well.

Brie is a rescue kitty.  Discovered by the Humane Society in one of their searches for strays.  She was very much in need of a good home.  And, as we discovered, a home with sufficient resources to bring her back to health.

Brie comes to us with “issues.”  She has a urinary tract infection which requires her to be isolated for two weeks.  “Absolutely chock full of bacteria” was how our vet described the situation..   Had we not adopted her, seen the problem immediately and gotten her some help, she may very well not have survived.

As a result of her infection, she’s confined to a bathroom but doesn’t seem bothered by that in the least.   Her meals are hand delivered by caring humans, there’s a cozy box in which to nest and heal, her litter box stays pristine and the thermostat is set to “kitty.” (Aka, extra warm.)   We should all be so lucky.

She’ll be “released” from confinement in a week or so and we eagerly await her entry into our lives. She’s made it clear that she’s eager to get out and play. It will feel so good to have fur under our fingers again.  It won’t be Basil’s fur but it will be admired, caressed and loved.

The three of us have very high hopes for a long and loving life together.
